I would like to thank the committee for the invitation, and the gift.

We seem to have 2 variations of ‘type’ in our breed, and I judged accordingly.

Not a good time of the year for coats, majority of exhibits were out of coat or just coming back into coat.  I found 1 level bite, 1 overshot bite, and one bite with misaligned incisors.

I did split hairs in some classes, particularly in limit bitch.  The first 3 bitches in this class were all excellent, and could changes places on another day.

1^st Short’s INT FIN CH GLENCHESS REVONTULI - BVIS, RBD

8  Years. Wolf Sable.  Excellent for type and temperament.  Medium size of correct proportions. Excellent head, small, mobile, erect ears.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Neck medium length.  Correct shoulder placement and hind angulation.  Well sprung ribs.  Correct tail set and carriage. Good reach and drive, very free moving dog.  Excellent bone.  Unfortunately out of coat.  Won reserve best dog on his movement.

2^nd Allison’s LUX CH OBERITZ OIVALLUS

7  Years. Black Tri.  Another excellent dog for type and temperament.  Again medium in size.  Excellent head with small mobile erect ears.  Eyes are a little on the round side. Eye colour harmonizing with coat colour.  Good body proportions. Tail set and carriage correct. Excellent bone.  Out of coat.  Preferred 1^st movement.

1^st Stanley’s IOLAIR MARKKU - BOSPIS

10 Months. Brown Tri. Excellent temperament.  Immature at present, needs time.  Head is developing nicely, has good width between ears.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Body is going through a rangy stage.  Topline is level on the move.  Tail set and carriage is correct.  Movement good.  Good bone and in good coat.

1^st Short’s GLENCHESS ROLLE

12 Months.  Black with White chest marking.  For a dog of this age, his movement is a joy to watch.  Correct movement when viewed from front, side and back, which won him the class. Excellent temperament and type.  Medium size and very good bone.  He is well grown, just needs to mature on.  Excellent head, eyes, ears which are semi erect. Very nice body.  Correct tail set and carriage.  Out of coat.  Very well handled and presented.

2^nd Arnold and Tandy’s GLENCHESS MOOSES

12 Months.  Litter brother to 1^st but of a different type.  Gave his handler a very hard time.  Black Tri.  Very good temperament.  He is of above medium height, and well grown.  More mature than his brother.  Has a very good head, with good width between the ears, which are erect.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour. Long neck, good body proportions.  Tail set and carriage correct.  In coat.  Once settled, movement good.

1^st Short’s GLENCHESS KEIKARI

4 Years. Brown. This dog can quite easily be overlooked, but I feel he is of excellent breed type.  He has a calm and quiet temperament.  Excellent broad head, with small mobile erect ears, with good width between the ears.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Very nice body proportions, well sprung ribs, medium length of neck, correct shoulder and hind angulation.  Bone is excellent.  Tail set is correct.  Very good movement.  topline level on the move.  He did put his tail up on the move in this class, unfortunately in limit class, his tail was down, which cost him 1^st place.  In good coat.

2^nd Burn’s OBERITZ MUUMI PEIKKO

3 Years. Black Tri.  Litter brother to BIS.  Mature, medium size.  Very good temperament and type.  Head is broad with small mobile erect ears. Would prefer a shorter muzzle.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Medium length of neck, good body proportions.  Excellent bone.  Correct tail set and carriage, level topline on the move.  Would have preferred a more positive hind movement.  In coat.  Well handled and presented.

1^st Stanley’s IVYDALE AAMUKASTE

3 Years Black Tri.  This dog is so much like his sire, bigger version.  Excellent for type and temperament.  Mature of medium size.  Does look square in body proportions, but is carrying a very good coat.  Excellent bone and substance.  Head is good, would like a fraction more width between the ears, erect, and mobile.  Eyes very dark brown.  Tail set and carriage correct.  Topline level on the move.  One of the few dogs to have short, strong back pasterns.  Good movement when viewed from all sides.  Well handled.  Considered for RBD.

5 Years. Black Tri.  This dog cannot be ignored, he shouts look at me!  Mature, medium size.  Excellent for type and temperament.  Well balanced, very nice profile.  Good head and expression.  Would have liked a darker eye.  Excellent bone.  Very good positive movement from all sides.  Excellent body and coat.  Expertly handled.  Very well presented.

2^nd Short’s GLENCHESS ILOLAS

2 Years Wolf Sable.  Excellent for type, and temperament, medium size.  Preferred his head to 1^st, more balanced.  Again has a very nice profile.  Good positive movement.  Excellent bone, in coat. Tail up and to the side, which is correct.  Lost out on maturity and presentation.

7 ½  Years. Black Tri.  Excellent temperament of medium size.  Very good type.  Mature body, which looks heavy due to a really good coat.  Well presented.  Bit lethargic on the move.

8  Years. Black Tri.  Excellent temperament of good type.  Medium size. Good body. Out of coat.  Favouring on the move.

9Months. Cream. Needs to settle, a little apprehensive when handled.  Above medium height.  Very dark brown eyes, and very good pigmentation.  Very immature, needs to grown into her frame.  Not the movement I was looking for.  This puppy needs time.

9Months. Wolf Sable.  Smaller than medium size.  Excellent temperament.  Mature in body for age, in thick puppy coat.  Head is maturing nicely.  Small, erect mobile ears.  Very dark brown eye.  Correct body proportions.  Tail set and carriage are correct.  Excellent bone.  Expertly handled by her young handler.  Moved very well.  More advanced in development than the dog puppy.

12 Months. Bear Black & Tan.  Still has her puppy coat, which is very thick, which consequently makes her look roly-poly.  Excellent for type and temperament.  Smaller than medium size.  Mature in body.  Looks short in neck, but this is an illusion due to the coat.  Head maturing nicely.  Small erect mobile ears. Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Level topline on the move.  Very good positive movement, excellent hind movement.  Excellent bone, correct tail set and carriage.

2^nd Allison’s OBERITZ RILLUMAREI

9Months.  Black Tri.  Smaller than medium size.  Excellent for type and temperament.  Head needs to broaden.  In very good coat for age.  Good body proportions.  Very good bone.  Correct tail set and carriage.  Preferred 1^st movement.

2 Years. Wolf Sable.  Really impressed with this bitch.  Would like to see her when she is fully matured and in coat. Excellent for type and temperament. Medium size.  This bitch has an excellent well balanced head, feminine, and an expression to die for.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Very good body proportions.  Excellent for bone, tail carriage and set correct.  Very good positive movement.  Lost out for Best Bitch on maturity, and coat.

2^nd Moore’s MORVAL FIRE FOXI

3 1/2 Years.  Brown Tri. Excellent temperament. Medium size, more mature than 1^st.  Coming back into coat.  Would prefer more length of leg. Good movement, topline held on the move.  Correct tail set and carriage.  Well handled.

3 Years.  Brown Tri.  Very mature for age.  In full coat. Excellent for type, temperament, bone.  Smaller than medium size.  Excellent head with small erect mobile ears.  Eyes harmonizing with coat colour.  Her neck does look short due to a very thick ruff.  Excellent body proportions.  Very good front and hind angulation.  One of the few dogs that had short, strong back pasterns.  Tail  set and carriage correct.  Correct movement from all sides.  Very well handled and presented.  Won over the Best Dog, as I felt in my opinion that she was closest to the standard.  Therefore very pleased to award her Best In Show.  Many congratulations.

2^nd Grimmett’s SAMBREEZE TAIMI OF WYCHEWOLF

3 ½  Years.  Dark Brown Tri.  Very close up to 1^st. Sadly out of coat.  Excellent for type, temperament and bone.  Medium size.  Excellent head  and expression.  Mature in body. Tail set, carriage, correct.  Very good movement.  Won 2^nd place over 3^rd on movement.

Kennel Club Allocates Championship Status 2011/2012 to Finnish Lapphunds

We are delighted with the news that the Finnish Lapphund has been awarded Championship Status by the Kennel Club, with effect from 2011. Six full sets of Championship Certificates and two singles will be on offer at the following shows:

Full set of Challenge Certificates:

• Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain (April)

• Birmingham National (May)

• Scottish Kennel Club (May),

• National Working & Pastoral Breeds Dog Society (July)

• Welsh Kennel Club (August)

Single Challenge Certificates:

• Southern Counties CA (June)

• Richmond DSS (September)

This is yet another important milestone in the breed and club’s history in the UK, the culmination of focused involvement by a relatively small group of dedicated enthusiasts:

• The First Finnish Lapphund was imported into the UK in 1989 in whelp – SF MVA Lecibsin Hissukka.

• Import Register Status was initially granted by the KC – restricting the breed to showing in Matches, Exemption Shows and Import Register Classes only.

• The Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain was founded in May 1994, with the purpose of protecting and furthering the interest of the breed in the UK.

• November 1995, saw the Club provisionally recognised by the UK Kennel Club.

• Rare Breed Status was granted in April 2002, seeing Finnish Lapphund classes scheduled at all levels of breed shows.

Along the way, there have been many people involved in the introduction and progression of the breed’s development in the UK. Our thanks go to all those who have helped us achieve our current status for their support and guidance. Particular mention must go to Sue and Roger Dunger of the Sulyka Kennels UK, who were responsible for the first stock being imported into the UK from the Lecibsin Kennels in Finland. Also to the many Kennels in Finland who have kindly allowed their stock to leave its native country to increase and enhance our gene pool – without them the Finnish Lapphund would not be where it is today in the UK.

Thanks to everyone for helping us to achieve this momentous milestone.
